“In 2009, the province of Alberta saw a 61% increase in the number of clients who had to access food banks. This was the largest increase in the country, but through the efforts of those tireless folks at each and every Food Bank, large or small, these clients were assisted with dignity and compassion. It is a privilege for me to serve on this Board of Directors that assists such a wonderful group of people, and we thank you for all of your efforts to offer some hope in our clients’ lives.” ~Suzan Krecsy, 2009 Chair
2008
“2008 was a very unpredictable year. Unemployment was down and jobs were plentiful in Alberta. However, as Food Bankers, we saw the challenges that affected our clients from increases in rent, utilities, gas, and the beginning of food cost increases. At the end of the year, we saw the shift and impact from the larger global economic changes. Despite the current strong economy, there are some individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. These people are unemployed and underemployed for a variety of, and sometimes complex, reasons. It is essential that we continue to work towards our short-term and long-term solutions to end poverty and hunger.” ~AFBNA Board of Directors

“On behalf of the AFBNA Board of Directors, please accept my sincerest thanks for your support and cooperation in 2005. Working as a charity brings unique challenges and struggles that we are all faced with at one point. The Alberta Food Bank Network Association alleviates some of these struggles by providing information and resource support to Alberta food banks. By being a member of the AFBNA, you have agreed to work collaboratively with other like minded individuals in Alberta to help our neighbours suffering from food insecurity. “As always, there is a continuous struggle to help our neighbours. In 2003, the AFBNA was able to help fellow Albertans in time of need through the ongoing BSE crisis, transportation challenges, and gas and other utility increases. All these combined are a tremendous burden on individual food banks. However, the Alberta Food Bank Network Association has created a hub to network and share needed information and resources throughout the Province. “We believe 2003 will be a year of growth. The AFBNA will continue to build strong relationships with communities throughout Alberta. We will continue to focus on communication and cooperation. New programming will be created and current projects will be expanded.” ~Jeanine Colley, 2002 Chair
